Cuando la crisis arrecia, hay que echarle imaginación y eso es lo que ha hecho el constructor ferroviario Alstom, cuyo presidente, Antonio Oporto, pidió ayer la implementación de un Plan Estatal de Tranvías que coordine los esfuerzos aislados que algunos ayuntamientos están haciendo para implantar este tipo de transporte.
Oporto indicó que «no costaría demasiado dinero, unos 1.500 millones en cinco años, y generaría mucho empleo local -en la obra- y a distancia, ya que los equipos se fabrican en otras localizaciones». Con ello se conseguirían los efectos «que todos deseamos: crear empleo, mantener la industria y fomentar un transporte más limpio».
El presidente de Alstom indicó que ya hay proyectos avanzados en al menos siete ciudades, subrayando que «no todo tiene que ser Madrid y Barcelona»: y defendió que se trata de una alternativa de transporte barata y ecológica para recorridos de hasta 10 kilómetros.
Recordó Oporto que España cuenta con una de las plantas industriales más importantes de Europa en fabricación de ferrocarriles y que la prueba de que es una potencia mundial es la visita del secretario de Transportes estadounidense para comprobar las bondades del modelo español de ferrocarril de alta velocidad.
Para Oporto, respaldar a la industria resulta vital para la economía española y ahora que parte de Europa vuelve a fomentar el tranvía, nuestro país no debe dejar pasar la oportunidad, en un momento en el que otros grandes proyectos atraviesan por alguna dificultad como consecuencia de la crisis.
